Description of Project Practicum
My practicum activity is based on assessing, monitoring, and preventing surgical site infections. Surgical site infections develop following surgery in the area of the body where the procedure was performed (Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, 2019). These infections have become prevalent, and they need to be prevented. This practicum project involves the incorporation of telemedicine to monitor and prevent SSIs. It entails utilizing mobile phone technology to diagnose SSIs. A chip will be mounted on the patient’s surgical site. It will be linked to a mobile phone in the surgical room, where medical practitioners will monitor the surgical area to determine any infection or anomaly.
Implementation
Implementation of the use of mobile phone technology in the diagnosis of surgical site infections will be done via a series of steps. All medical stakeholders will be involved from the initial to the final phase. A SWOT analysis regarding the project will be done. It will help identify the strengths and correct the limitations linked to the project (Jordan, 2022). After that, medical personnel will be taken through a training program and taught how to use mobile technology effectively. The project will be adopted for implementation in relation to the organizational policies and programs.
Planned Activities
CLO 1: Leadership
As an active member, part of this project’s planning process entails various roles and planned activities. These roles are connected to leadership, quality care, scholarships, and communication, among other aspects. Regarding leadership, attending all staff meetings and providing a report on the project’s progress is crucial. The attending meeting also enhances the acquisition of new ideas meant to make the project successful and better. As a leader, I will also provide guidance and training to my colleagues. This makes all medical staff aware of their responsibilities and the project operates (Jordan, 2022). Additionally, I will conduct a needs assessment and review organizational policies and procedures that might have been a barrier to managing surgical site infections.
CLO 2: Quality Care
According to a report by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (2019), surgical site infection rates are alarming. This is courtesy of improper sanitation, medical errors, and lack of quality care when handling patients in surgical units. Thus, there is a need to facilitate quality care using evidence-based practice. To ensure quality care, I will review assessment tools used by other medical organizations to manage SSIs. This review will provide additional resources to my practicum project. Also, setting a quality improvement program will enhance quality care. This includes ensuring providers clean their hands before surgery and maintaining high sanitary standards within the medical facility.
CLO 3: Scholarship
The scholarship is also pivotal in ensuring this project succeeds. As such, I will participate in grant-writing activities on behalf of my medical facility. I will be at the forefront of conductus audits and supervision within the surgical department (Aggarwal et al., 2018). From such assessments, it will be easy to identify areas that need professional strengths and skills regarding SSIs. Participating in will help determine patient safety goals that will be communicated to medical practitioners of the facility.
CLO 4: Communication
To enhance communication within the facility, I will for staff after receiving approval from Mentor and faculty. I will also facilitate committee meetings to review and update agency policies and procedures linked to SSIs. Writing public service announcements and brochures regarding the treatment, care, and management of surgical site infections will help spread awareness of this project’s crucial information(Jordan, 2022).
CLO 5 Health Promotion
As anurse leader, one is responsible for delivering quality care and improving patient outcomes. Concerning health promotion, the planned activities include developing educational resources and conducting health promotion activities such as disseminating public health information regarding the subject matter. I will make a presentation on how SSIs can be addressed by citing research and approaches utilized by various organizations that have succeeded (Aggarwal et al., 2018). This involves highlighting SSIs’ causes, incidence, severity, and consequences.
CLO 6 Professionalism
Professionalism is an essential aspect utilized in effective decision-makingpertaining to workplace issues and synthesizing concepts encountered related to the health care system. I first plan to identify the patients needs and then collaborate with the management services department to plan, organize, and facilitate programs to ensure quality care (Darvish et al., 2019). Among them is addressing medical errors causing SSIs and developing a process for dealing with ethical issues arising in surgical units.
CLO 7 Diversity
Medical facilities offer services to patients from different backgrounds. It is pivotal for every practitioner to have the professional nursing concepts and skills necessary to work with various populations(Jordan, 2022). To achieve this, I will attend training concerning cultural sensitivity in patients and research the history, culture, beliefs, and values of cultural groups in the United States of America. Developing in-service cultural sensitivity programs will be crucial to the medical personnel within the organization, knowing the need to be culturally accommodative to .
CLO 8 Informatics
This practicum is based on mobile technology. Therefore, it is essential to know how to interrogate telemedicine into practice. To achieve this, I will develop a resource database of services related to the practicum and utilize measurement tools to determine the patient’s progress. I will also work with other staff to develop administrative policies that embrace telehealth changes and information technology measures(Darvish et al., 2019).
